OUR STORY

The Sterling Rural Fire Protection District was organized on April 26, 1947 to provide fire protection to persons and property within the district boundaries, excluding all property located within the corporate limits of the City of Sterling. The first three board directors were Donald Hamil, Alex Fiebig and J.P. McKenzie.

Today, the district encompasses just over 800 square miles in southwest Logan County and contracts with Sterling Fire Department and Merino Volunteer Fire Department for fire protection and emergency response to care for the district's citizens and visitors.
